Transmission and differential service involves checking and changing the lubricants in the truck’s transmission and differential to ensure they run smoothly and prevent wear. Differential fluid changes are recommended every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Signs that services are needed include grinding noises, vibrations, fluid leaks, and poor handling.

Common transmission services

Fluid flush: Over time, transmission fluid loses its lubricating and cooling properties. A flush replaces the old fluid with new, extending the life of the transmission and preventing heat damage.

• Signs you need a flush: Burnt smell, grinding or shaking, or a low fluid level.

Leak repair: Gaskets and seals can wear out, causing a fluid leak. Catching and repairing a leak early is much cheaper than replacing the entire transmission.

• Signs you need a repair: Red or dark brown fluid pooling under the car.

Rebuild: This service involves removing and disassembling the transmission to replace damaged or worn internal components, such as clutches, bands, and seals. It is a cost-effective alternative to a full replacement.
